Liverpool will aim to keep pace in the Premier League title race when they host Brighton & Hove Albion among the day’s 3pm action.
Jurgen Klopp’s side stunned fierce rivals Manchester United last weekend with an incredible 5-0 win at Old Trafford, and they will be hoping to avoid complacency and maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign when they host the south coast side.
The Seagulls have also made a great start under Graham Potter but head into the game having not won any of their previous five matches.
90+2min: It’s like Mike Dean has found his cards all of a sudden as Shane Duffy now sees yellow for pulling back on Mane’s shirt.
90+1min: Lamptey is booked as four minutes are added on.
88min: Takumi Minamino comes on to replace Curtis Jones and his first act is to crash through a Brighton player to pick up a booking – the first of the game.
85min: More Brighton dark arts or genuine concern? Tariq Lamptey has gone down holding his ankle to take the sting out of the game as he needs treatment. The visitors are still defending strongly here.
81min: Time running out but this is Liverpool at Anfield, you feel there is at least one big chance still to come from the Reds, no matter how brilliant Brighton have been this afternoon.
Roberto Firmino makes way for Diogo Jota.
78min: It’s not just the pretty stuff Brighton have down to a tee either. Taking a corner, they kill a bit of a time by deciding to switch dead ball takers, in a slow casual manner as you might expect. I’ll give that a 8/10 for the dark arts of the game – it gets boos from the home fans anyway.
77min: Warm applause around Anfield as former fsvourite Lallana is replaced by Pascal Gross.
75min: Goodness me, the unthinkable nearly happens! Brighton have the ball in the net to take a 3-2 lead, or so they think, but Trossard was slightly offside before racing on to a pass.
72min: As you expect Liverpool are now totally dominating possession, but Brighton are hanging in there.
66min: In a change that was going to be made before the goal, Brighton send on Tariq Lamptey for Jakub Moder.
65min: This is magnificent! Brighton have totally carved up Liverpool with a superb passing move that ends with Lallana playing Leandro Trossard into the box and slotting home. Brighton have come from 2-0 down to equalise at Anfield!
61min: Not quite the crash, bang wallop stuff from the first half, but Liverpool will be satisfied for now. They have a control of the game, but don’t write Brighton off here. There is a bite to them this afternoon. What a job Graham Potter is doing with this team by the way. They look feareless.
58min: Mohamed Salah wants a penalty after going down under minimal pressure from Marc Cucurella, but referee Mike Dean is not having any of it and waves play on. Good call, I might add. It wasn’t quite a dive but it wasn’t too far short of it.
55min: Back come Liverpool but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sees his effort blocked but after being played in by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
52min: Some nervous fans inside Anfield now. Brighton are playing some impressive stuff as a passing move is worked well towards Leandro Trossard on the edge of the box whose shot is crucially blocked.
50min: But back come Brighton! Adam Lallana races on to a lovely flick inside the Liverpool box but the former Reds midfielder can only fire straight at Alisson.
48min: Liverpool soon have the ball in the net again, Mohamed Salah rolling home after a through ball from Sadio Mane, but he is just offside.
44min: Liverpool looked like they were going to go 3-0 up, now they are fortunate not to have been pegged back to 2-2. Mwepu slides a ball through for Leandro Trossard but Alisson races out of his box to just about clear in front of him.
41min: Wow – what a goal! Salah scores this and you wouldn’t hear the last of it until next week.
Instead it’s Brighton’s forward Enock Mwepu who with a pass played back back to him nearly 30 yards out, hits a looping first-time effort that perfectly lobs Alisson. Stunning goal to get his side back into it.
38min: Let’s not mess around though, Liverpool are cooking with gas in this first half. Salah again escapes down the right but this time his cross with the outside of the boot is well claimed by Sanchez coming off his line.
34min: Nearly total disaster for Brighton. They try to play out from the back, laying the ball back to keeper Robert Sanchez.
His decision to hesitate before trying to clear results in his punt bouncing off Mane and into the net.
It’s VAR to the rescue for the Seagulls though, as the Liverpool forward had guided the ball in with his arm from the ricochet. So it remains 2-0.
28min: That’s another chance for Brighton but a cross from the left is rather weakly headed off target by Enock Mwepu. Probably should have done a little better than that. I can’t see Virgil van Dijk and Co offering too many more chances like that.
24min: Welcome to the game Oxlade-Chamberlain! The midfielder whips in a superb cross swinging away from goal towards the far post, where Sadio Mane does it justice by nodding home.
20min: Concerns for the Reds though. Naby Keita is forced off injured as he is replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
18min: And yet it could be easily be 2-0! Liverpool launch their own central counter attack, with Sadio Mane then Mohamed Salah moving the ball into the box where one-on-one with the keeper, Roberto Firmino poorly lifts his finish over the bar.
15min: Dashed unlucky from Brighton! Yves Bissouma wins the ball on the halfway line before charging through the centre of the park and letting fly with a low 25 yard drive that beats the diving Alisson only to bounce off the face of the post and wide.
7min: That goal has really settled Liverpool. They are knocking the ball around with total confidence right now knowing there is less pressure on them to find the net. Very early days of course.
4min: And Brighton pay for it! Virgil van Dijk plays an incredible diagonal for Mohamed Salah on the right who after jinking into the box lays the ball to the edge of the box for Jordan Henderson to apply an excellent finish.
3min: It’s Liverpool chasing a hat-trick of 5-0 wins but it’s Brighton with the first chance as Solly March forces a good save from Alisson.
The players are completing their pre-match preparations with just 10 minutes to go until kick off at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp has called for Liverpool supporters to show their appreciation for former player Adam Lallana when the playmaker returns to Anfield with Brighton.
Lallana, 33, will head back to his old club this afternoon for the Premier League clash, having left Liverpool on good terms at the end of the 2019-20 season.
And Klopp, his ex-coach, is desperate to see Lallana, who remains a firm favourite among the fanbase, treated to a warm reception to recognise his achievements.
